COLUMBUS, Ohio - OhioHealth pathologist, Susan Fuhrman, MD, has been named to the Board of Trustees of the American Board of Pathology.
As a member of the board, Dr. Fuhrman is responsible for developing and reviewing certification examination questions and materials and administering certification examinations in Anatomic Pathology, Clinical Pathology and subspecialty certifications in Hematology, Cytopathology, Dermatopathology, Neuropatholgy, Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine, Forensic Pathology, Medical Microbiology, Molecular Genetic Pathology and Pediatric Pathology. Other trustee duties include interacting with the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), Pathology Residency programs and other Pathology professional organizations. As a new board member, Dr. Fuhrman will be chairing a new Test Development Committee in Laboratory Management and Informatics.
"I am looking forward to interacting and learning from colleagues across the country and in the many disciplines of Pathology as well as participating and leading activities that will have a positive effect on the quality of the practice of pathology now and in the future," Fuhrman said.
As a board-certified physician in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Chemical Pathology with 30 years of practice experience, Dr. Fuhrman has served numerous roles as a physician, professor and published researcher. She is known for her work in developing the most widely used and most predictive grading system for renal cell cancer-the Fuhrman Nuclear Grade. Currently, she's the Chairman of the Department of Pathology at Riverside Methodist Hospital as well as the Director of Pathology and Laboratory Services for Grant Riverside Laboratories. Dr. Fuhrman has been a member of the Chemical Pathology Test Development Committee (TDAC) of the American Board of Pathology for 13 years. She is a member of the Central Ohio Society of Pathologists, Ohio State Medical Association and Ohio Society of Pathologists, where she served on the Board of Directors for five years.
Dr. Fuhrman received her undergraduate degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Cambridge and her doctorate from the University of Michigan Medical School. She completed her pathology residency and special training in clinical chemistry at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
